The two-year international cooperation between the Karaganda State Medical University (KMU) in Kazakhstan and the Kliniken Schmieder was successfully continued at the end of January. Four doctors travelled to Allensbach to complete a comprehensive, one-week training programme at the Kliniken Schmieder in the field of neurological rehabilitation, neuroradiology and therapy in theory and practice.
The first part of the training programme focused on theory. In various lectures, the Kazakh doctors were introduced to acute neurology and early neurological rehabilitation by Prof. Chatzikonstantinou, as well as neuro-rehabilitation by Prof. Liepert. The doctors also gained insights into implementing the various treatment phases in neurological rehabilitation in Germany. The training was completed with an introduction to neuroradiology and its role in diagnosing and treating neurological diseases by Prof Stippich.
The second part of the training was a three-day practical training, offering in-depth insights into the everyday clinical work of the neurological rehabilitation team at the Kliniken Schmieder and into the daily work of the therapists in the various therapy areas.
The cooperation between KMU and the Kliniken Schmieder will be continued in 2024 through a joint research project and online lectures. The observational study coordinated by the Lurija Institute will address the question of whether the outcome of initially severely affected stroke patients differs in the two countries.
