SERVICE AND PORTFOLIO

Department of Neuroradiology and Radiology

Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology is a specialised field of radiology. It deals with imaging diagnostics (diagnostic neuroradiology) and treatment / therapy (interventional neuroradiology) of diseases and changes of the nervous system, i.e. of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, of associated organ systems, for example for movement, sensation, vision, hearing, balance, smell, or taste, and of surrounding structures (skull, spinal column, musculature).

State-of-the-art equipment is used for this purpose. Imaging procedures include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), angiography (catheter imaging of the vessels with contrast medium), myelography (examination of the spinal canal with contrast medium), X-ray examinations, and sonography (ultrasound).

Performing and assessing neuroradiological examinations requires extensive specialised medical and technical knowledge.
To provide the best possible care for patients, neuroradiologists work closely with all related clinical disciplines including neurology, neurosurgery, neuropaediatrics, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, geriatrics, and others.

Neuroradiologists are specialised in answering even the most difficult medical questions very precisely and with the highest professional expertise. You as a patient benefit from this as well as the doctors treating you, who can thus optimally adapt your therapy to your illness and needs.

Neuroradiology and Radiology of Kliniken Schmieder in Allensbach

Modern equipment and the best professional expertise

The Department of Neuroradiology and Radiology at Kliniken Schmieder in Allensbach is the only specialised neuroradiology department in the Lake Constance region. We offer inpatients and outpatients state-of-the-art equipment and the highest level of professional expertise. Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Stippich is the medical director of the department since October 2020.

Prof. Stippich is a clinically and academically renowned neuroradiologist and radiologist with more than 20 years of professional experience. Previously, he served as Director of the Department of Neuroradiology at the University Hospital Zurich, Head of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at the University Hospital Basel, consultant neuroradiologist and resident at the University Hospitals in Heidelberg, Marburg, and Erlangen, respectively. His research focus is MRI.

In addition to professional expertise, Kliniken Schmieder in Allensbach also have the complete diagnostic equipment of a modern radiology department. The imaging equipment and methods are state-of-the-art. The flagship is a high-performance 3 Tesla MRI-unit. The latest digital X-ray equipment and a powerful CT-scanner enable very precise diagnostics with low radiation exposure.

Our offer includes:

  • 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Multislice Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Digital X-Ray
  • Special examinations (individually tailored imaging)
  • Expert opinions, second opinions, and personal consultations

We are specialised in imaging diagnostics of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, the vessels, the skull, the head/neck region, and the spine, in particular:

  • Stroke, neurovascular disease
  • Dementias, Parkinson’s disease, neurodegeneration
  • Multiple sclerosis, demyelinating, and inflammatory diseases
  • Brain and spinal cord tumours, neuro-oncology
  • Eye/orbit, hearing and vestibular organs, cranial nerves, etc.
  • Neuromuscular / musculoskeletal diseases
  • Pain, minimally invasive CT-guided pain treatment of the spine

Of course, we are also dedicated to imaging the entire body.

What distinguishes us

We follow the principle: “Highest quality, tailor-made imaging, and personal care”. Our patients benefit from optimal imaging, the latest equipment technology, the highest level of professional expertise, and prompt service.

Prof. Stippich has developed special examination protocols for the various diseases that answer the medical questions posed to us as accurately as possible and provide reproducible results for follow-up examinations. Our staff is trained for such demanding examinations and takes time for each patient. You will receive a detailed report and personal advice. Examination appointments can be booked quickly and easily.

High-resolution and 3D sequences, diffusion (DWI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), perfusion imaging (PWI), susceptibility imaging (SWI), BOLD imaging, MR-angiographies (vascular imaging), standardised and quantitative procedures are used for optimised neuroradiological 3 Tesla MRI (see figures).
