In Kliniken Schmieder Konstanz, rehabilitation is carried out in phase NRP-M.
Phase NRP-M: At Kliniken Schmieder Konstanz, the focus is on treating patients in phase NRP-M. Indications for treatment include, for example, strokes, head injuries, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, extrapyramidal diseases, degenerative diseases of the nervous system, epilepsy, diseases of the spinal cord, diseases of the discs, diseases of the peripheral nervous system, neurological pain syndromes.
Our focus in recent years has shifted to treating patients with multiple sclerosis. Since October 1, 2006, the clinic has been awarded the “Recognized Center for Multiple Sclerosis” certificate by the German Society for Multiple Sclerosis. Patients are offered a balanced spectrum of physiotherapy, occupational, sports, and neuropsychological and psychotherapeutic treatment methods. Our clinic is particularly known among wheelchair-bound patients because our program is well-suited to wheelchair patients and patients have easy access to Lake Constance. Almost all rooms are single-bedded. If desired, they can be equipped for accompanying relatives.
Our services are also popular among chronic stroke patients. Here the focus is on physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, but also on the field of living with the disease or neuropsychology. Another special offer from our hospital is occupational therapy in phase NRP-M. It is intended primarily for patients who want to return to a non-physical, academic, commercial, or administrative field of activity.
Another specialty of Kliniken Schmieder in Konstanz is the treatment of muscle diseases. Our Medical Director, Prof. Christian Dettmers, and the German Society for Muscular Diseases have been cooperating in this area for a long time. Our clinic provides professional, optimal, and individual care for patients with neuromuscular diseases.
A very important and long-standing area of expertise is the department of psychotherapeutic neurology. This department is unique in Germany. The department deals with psychotherapeutic and psychosomatic diseases and the consequences of neurological diseases. Particular attention is paid to pain therapy and dissociative disorders.

We work closely with the Konstanz Clinic and its neurologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and neuropsychologists.
In addition, we have close and constant professional contact with the neurological university clinic in Freiburg (Prof. Dr. K. Weiller) and the Psychological Institute of the University of Konstanz (Prof. B. Rockstroh and Prof. Dr. T. Elbert). ). In video training, we work closely with Prof. F. Binkofski.
In the field of psychiatric and psychotherapeutic education, a successful collaboration has been established between the Department of Psychology at the University of Konstanz (Dr. Hans Watzl), the Center for Psychiatry Reichenau (Dr. Klaus Hoffmann), the Schaffhausen Cantonal Psychiatric Hospital (Dr. Patricia Strahl), and psychotherapeutic neurology (Dr. Roger Schmidt) from Kliniken Schmieder.
WKR (training group for psychotherapeutic medicine and psychotherapy Konstanz / Reichenau, general manager – Prof. Dr. Klaus Schonauer) includes the internal department of the Konstanz Clinic and members of the WPK (training group for psychotherapy Konstanz, general manager Dr. Wolfgang Walz).
