In Heidelberg, patients are rehabilitated from stages A to E. Particular attention is paid to the early stage of rehabilitation B.
In Heidelberg, we treat all neurological diseases such as head and brain injuries, stroke, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, extrapyramidal diseases, degenerative diseases of the nervous system, epilepsy, diseases of the spinal cord, diseases of the intervertebral discs, diseases of the peripheral nervous system and muscles, as well as neurological pain syndromes.

- We treat the entire spectrum of acute neurological diseases.
- Continuation of diagnostics and therapy after the treatment in the intensive care unit of the University Hospital Heidelberg
- Treatment of acute neurological complications during rehabilitation at home

- We have eight beds equipped with mechanical ventilation for early neurological rehabilitation of people with severe brain trauma.

- Early mobilization and post-primary rehabilitation of patients with severe brain trauma

Diagnostic equipment
- Neurophysiological diagnostics: EEG (digital), EMG + NLG, OOR, evoked potentials (VEP, SEP, AEP), transcortical magnetic stimulation, visual field perimetry
- Neurosonological diagnostics: extra- and transcranial Doppler ultrasound, extra- and transcranial color duplex sonography, bubble test on the right / left shunt
- Video endoscopic diagnostics of swallowing
- On-site imaging procedures: conventional x-ray, and in collaboration with Heidelberg University Hospital: magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography (CT), cerebral angiography
- Internal diagnostics: transthoracic echocardiography, abdominal sonography, pleural sonography, vascular sonography, 12-lead ECG, remote ECG, stress ECG, spirometry, and long-term blood pressure measurement.
- Video endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy, PEG/PEJ system, bronchoscopy, rectosigmoid endoscopy)
- On-site laboratory tests: blood gas analysis, various rapid tests (blood sugar, urine status), in cooperation with Heidelberg University Hospital: blood and urine tests, microbiology
- Neuropsychological diagnostics
- Diagnosis of language and speech disorders
- Clinical and video endoscopic diagnostics of swallowing disorders

- Speech therapy: treatment of aphasia and dysarthria (individually and in groups), treatment of chewing and swallowing disorders, FOT

Regional partners
Kliniken Schmieder Heidelberg is Heidelberg’s University’s academic teaching hospital and cooperation arm. Joint scientific projects are being carried out with the university hospital, and there is a cooperation agreement.
Kliniken Schmieder also cooperates with the University Hospital Mannheim, the Ludwigshafen Clinic, and the St. Josef Hospital in Heidelberg.
