Occupational therapy - an overview

Household training in occupational therapy

Occupational therapy and neurology are medically closely related. Many neurological diseases lead to functional limitations in which occupational therapy can be very useful. The characteristic of occupational therapy patients is that they are limited in their ability to act. The loss of function caused by illness, disability, or age and the associated awareness, and possibly also pain, are often stressful. Occupational therapy aims to increase the independence of those affected so that they can perform their everyday tasks at work, school, or family as independently as possible.
The occupational therapy measures are determined together with the person concerned with regard to the individual restrictions. The activities of daily living are of particular importance. If activities cannot be carried out completely, compensation strategies are taught.
